Does converting reduce my image quality?
No, and not in the hand-waving sense — the JPEG data is embedded into the PDF exactly as it arrived, without being decoded and re-compressed. PDF supports storing JPEG-compressed data natively, so there is no re-encoding step to lose anything at. The image in the PDF is identical to the file you started with.
What page size will I get?
One sized to your image. Pixel dimensions are mapped to points at 96 per inch, so the picture fills its page exactly with nothing cropped and no white borders. A portrait photo gives a portrait page. If you need everything on A4, choose "fit to page" when printing.
Can I combine several photos into one PDF?
On this page each image becomes its own PDF. To get one document containing all of them — the usual goal for a scanned contract or a set of receipts — use the Images to PDF tool, which is built for exactly that and lets you set the page order first.
Is my EXIF data included?
No. Camera model, exposure settings, timestamps and GPS coordinates are not carried into the PDF. That is usually welcome: a document photographed at home would otherwise travel with the coordinates of your house attached.
Should I use JPG or PNG for screenshots?
PNG, always. JPEG's compression is designed for photographs and puts visible artefacts around the hard edges of text and interface elements — and being lossy, those artefacts are permanent. A screenshot saved as PNG and converted through the PNG to PDF page stays crisp.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The image is read and the PDF assembled inside your browser tab. For photographs of passports, bank statements and signed documents — which is a great deal of what gets converted — that is the entire point.
JPEG and PDF have a useful relationship that most converters waste. The PDF format can store a JPEG's compressed data directly inside the file — the same DCT-compressed bytes, untouched — rather than decoding the picture and re-encoding it. When a converter takes advantage of that, converting a JPG to PDF costs you nothing in quality at all.
This one does. Your JPEG's data is embedded exactly as it arrived: not decoded to pixels, not re-compressed, not passed through a quality slider set to somebody's idea of a sensible default. The image inside the PDF is bit-for-bit the image you started with.
That matters because JPEG is lossy, and lossy formats degrade every time they are re-encoded. A scanned contract that has been converted, re-saved and converted again by tools that decode and re-compress at each step visibly softens. Avoiding a generation loss is not a small refinement; it is the difference between a document that stays legible through a workflow and one that does not.

How the page is sized
The page is made to fit the image rather than the image being fitted to a page. Pixel dimensions are converted to PDF points at 96 pixels per inch — the standard screen resolution — so a 1920×1080 photograph produces a page 1440×810 points, and the picture fills it edge to edge with no margin and no letterboxing.
The practical consequence is that a portrait photo yields a portrait page and a landscape photo a landscape one, automatically, and nothing is ever cropped or padded. The practical cost is that a set of images at different sizes produces a PDF whose pages differ in size — which is fine on screen and can be awkward at a printer, where fitting to A4 is the setting you want in the print dialog.
What this is good for
- Scanned and photographed documents
- The usual case. Phone cameras produce JPEGs, and a stack of them is much easier to send, sign and archive as one PDF than as fifteen attachments.
- Anything going through a workflow
- Because there is no re-encoding, a JPEG can pass through this conversion without the softening that repeated lossy saves produce. Text in a photographed document stays as sharp as the photograph was.
- Sending images to someone who must not edit them easily
- A PDF is a slightly more formal container than a loose photo, and pages in it stay in the order you set.
- Photographs, with a caveat
- They convert perfectly, but PDF is a poor archive format for photography — no EXIF, no colour management to speak of once embedded, and larger than the JPEG alone. Convert for sending, not for storing.
What is not preserved
EXIF metadata does not survive: the camera model, the exposure settings, the GPS coordinates and the date are not carried into the PDF. For most people sending a document this is a feature rather than a loss, since a photographed document otherwise carries the location it was taken in.
Colour profiles are likewise not carried across, so an image in a wide-gamut profile may render slightly differently from how it looks in a colour-managed photo application.
Neither of these affects the picture data itself, which is unchanged.
JPG, PNG and the choice between them
If you have the choice of what to convert — a screenshot you are about to save, say — the rule is straightforward. JPEG is lossy and compresses photographs extremely well; PNG is lossless and handles flat colour, screenshots, text and line art without the ringing artefacts JPEG produces around hard edges.
For a photograph, JPEG. For a screenshot of a spreadsheet, a diagram, or anything containing text, PNG — and the PNG to PDF page. Converting a screenshot to JPEG first and then to PDF puts compression artefacts around every letter and there is no getting them back.
